Kuhns Christmas… at Thanksgiving

My extended family is all from Illinois. Almost all of them. Both sides. I was born there. My parents eventually moved to Ohio where we are now. We always go to Illinois at Christmas. Each of my dad’s siblings takes turns hosting “Kuhns Christmas”. This year we all decided to host Kuhns Christmas in Ohio. The whole family hasn’t been to Ohio since my dad’s 40th birthday party 10 years ago. Yep my dad is 50. 🙂 We knew we could never match schedules for everyone at Christmas time so we did it at Thanksgiving time. Almost the whole family was there. We were only missing two “significant others” (my sister’s boyfriend and cousin Wilbur’s girlfriend) and my Grandma and my cousin Rick who had Christmas in heaven.

It was a project to prepare. There were 76 people attending. We had to prepare food, beds, bathrooms, more beds, dining area, more beds, buy tables, chairs, couches and stoves on Craigslist, more beds, build a makeshift motel 6 with more beds/air mattresses and lots more. With my parents’ house, my brothers “dowdy haus”, 6 bed rooms (the motel 6) built from lumber, plastic, and old dress fabric for doors, office couches, and the neighbors’ empty house we all managed to find spaces to sleep.

And we partied from Thursday night to Sunday morning!

Cops and Robbers. Aunts and Uncles. Grandpa and Grandma Barbara. My immediate family including Desiree. Big Cousins. Little Cousins. Cousins’ husbands and wives and girlfriends. Cousins’ little kids. Family.

It wouldn’t be a Kuhns Christmas without Rook. That is my grandpa on the right.

Black Friday Flyers. Trying to decide if it was worth going out into the crowd for any must have deals. Yes, that is a baby in the middle of it. Kendra was entertained just being there.

Playing church

Playing church-Austin, Adrian, and Jaylene. Here the youtube videos. Part 1, Part 2, Part 3.  The end of Part 2 is my personal favorite. Adrian was totally fine 5 seconds later so it’s ok to laugh without guilt.

The chaos

The chaos

Because the bus had to get on the road early Sunday we had a special church service. We invited our whole church to join us. We started at 7am and then had brunch after with everyone. It was great to introduce our family to our church people and vice versa.
